Dear Dr. Dugout..shaved bats question
Modified By Dr. Dugout on 2/13/2010 12:20:45 AM)

Dear Doctor Dugout.

Who are these people who are shaving their bats..and what kind of bat is it that needs to be shaved?? I don't play softball, but at lunch today I overheard some men talking about shaving their bats.  Since when do bats have hair? Does this hair soften the bat so the ball does not go as far when they hit it? Is that why they want to shave their bats?  Why don't they just buy a bat that does does not have hair on it.? And if the bat does have hair, just take the dang thing back. Who has time to shave their bats?  A hairy bat sounds gross. What is happening in softball? Why are people so confused? Just buy a bat that does not have hair on it..or come up with some other way to get the hair off of the bat .Duct tape..wrap duct tape around your hairy batt and I'll bet the hair would come right off if you pulled hard enough. Or lip wax, maybe these bat shavers should try some lip wax, that'll take the hair off about anything. It is just does not seem like it should be such a problem. Can you help me understand this Dr. Dugout.

Dear Shaved Bats: I can understand your confusion. I also do not know why some people think they need to shave their bats? The bats don't actually grow hair. In fact there is nothing wrong with the bats. They do not need to be shaved at all. These players (who shave their bats) have  potency issues. They need to grow some hair of their own. You know that male enhancement advertisement  we see on television..one is for something called "Extenze" or something like that.  Here is the deal...no bat needs to be shaved...nor does any bat need to be extended...They are both just fine in their natural state. I hope I am not being too vague. Bat shaving and male enhancement pills are both symptoms of performance anxiety and feelings of inadequacy. There is help out there for these folks. They obviously love softball, and that is a good thing. It does seem however, they have forgotten the importance of learning to be okay with who you are..It is an insecure man indeed who shaves his bat.  You can get more information/support at www.batshaversanonymous.com.  Let me know if I have answered any of your question. Please feel free to ask for more information about this issue as it is an important one.
